Rabdan is a horse riding clothing brand made from rider to rider. The whole brand concept is inspired from the mare Rabdan the most famous horse in UAE and its characteristic. In each piece you will see beauty power intelligence and authenticity.
Our Founder
Our founder Amna Albastaki had a passion for horses since childhood, but she couldn’t fulfil it until late.
A dream really came true at that moment – she said. She describes it as her soul become alive again. There is no feeling that can be compared to the one when you bond with your horse and become one spirit.
At that time, it was hard to find a suitable cloth to wear for horse riding, especially that suit our climate in UAE and suit a modest woman like herself Most horse riding clothing brands were foreigners and couldn’t completely meet her needs. She always had to alter something.
From there after searching and knowing about the special brands in the horse riding field she said why not create her own clothing brand with her own style and fulfill the region’s needs and make it worldwide.
And here Rabdan equestrian was born.

kahila
Sheikh Zayed the first had a mare called Kahila, he gifted it to one of his friends from his tribe -Ramithan- who took her to the city of Al Ain. And there she got pregnant and gave birth to Rabdan.
When she reached to the age they returned her back to sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa as a gift and he accepted her.
While riding her mother Kahila she refused to move as if she didn’t want to separate from her little one so they drag her from her standing position hatefully, and as soon they got out from Abu Dhabi to go back to Al Ain she start stoping from time to time and throw her self on the ground so her owner said:
What is this all stubbornness in this mare, is it from separation of her daughter or her nostalgia for her owner sheikh Zayed returned to her? So they returned to Abu Dhabi ..
Rabdan
The origin of word Rabdan in Arabic (robd) means color dust or white turned to grayish color as it was the color of rabdan. It says that the origin of it breeds belong back to the horses of prophet Mohammad peace be upon him as mentioned in book of diaries of the German expatriate boukhardat, who visited Abu Dhabi in 1944 when he asked sheikh Zayed the first about rabdan
He also mentioned that it breed name called -saqlawiyah- which was gifted by one of the chiefs of Mecca to one of the sheikhs of Al Nahyan the ancestors of sheikh Zayed and the elders inherited this breed from father to son and this breed still preserved to this day by Al Nahyan and Al Maala Sheikh of Umm Al Qaywain
Death of Sheikh Zayed the first
After the death of Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa in 1962, Sheikh Bati bin Suhail Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, sent delegation including his cousins and notable of Dubai to condole sons of Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa in their father and they requested his mare Rabdan
However they were shocked that his son sheikh Sultan bin Zayed gifted it to sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Ma’ala, the ruler of umm Al Qayween after he seemed to like and admire the horse when he saw her. So he gifted him before he asked for her as act of generosity that was famously for Arabs.
Rabdan and Sheikh Rashid Al Ma’ala
While sheikh Rashid Ahmad Al Ma’ala was leaving the funeral ruler of umm- Al Qayween, he passed near the horse that was tied in front of the fort, and he began to admire the horse , and sheikh sultan bin Zayed was standing next to him and noticed his admiration for it, so he said: after my beloved father passed its hard on us to ride her and she is yours. So sheikh rashid accepted her , in our present time the Maala family has a dynasty known as “Rabdan children” which is one of the dynasty of this Authintic Arabian mare.
The Rebuke of Sheikh Bati Al Maktoum- ruler of Dubai
When Sheikh Bati bin Suhail – Ruler of Dubai- knew about what happened to Rabdan he saddened for his failure to get her and send his poem to Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed blaming him for this action and that this mare is from memory of their father and irreplaceable and she was the support through his battles and movements and his path partner and being Authentic and one of the choices of warrior, yet he didn’t blame Sheikh Rashid Al Maala as he was known for taking good care of horses.
The reply of Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed came as poem Saying to not feel bad or sorry as the breed of Rabdan still observed and sustained with them And he emphasized the act of generosity in Arab people, they like to give the precious stuff to good people and that is not strange for them Also mentioning that Sheikh Rashid Al Maala deserve Rabdan as he isknown for his good care to horses He advised him to not be sad, who have his good sons his memory shallnever die and will stay forever The memory of his father will not be immortal by his horse but by hisgood sons that will carry his name, characteristic and actions speciallycourage and generosity. This was in short the brief story of mare Rabdan which was known for herbeauty, Strength, speed, intelligence and Authenticity. And because of our much love for her and her characteristic we decidedthat her name will be the name of the brand and our inspiration. There is no horse equal to beauty, power, intelligence and Authenticityof Arab Horse.
